BLIP

— Pedro Sousa Studio

BLIP was one of the funniest and most challenging projects Pedro has had so far.

From the beginning, he received a very interesting vision and request from the client BLIP web engineers, a young and fast growing company which commissioned Pedro’s office to create the visual branding for a new global big office in Porto.

The briefing was initially a bit controversial and it seemed to be illogical that a company with big headquarters and offices would require the designer’s services, which at the same time should be for the human and humble scale. They asked us for a radical new way of rethinking how work should be done. They also wanted the new space to become

a meeting place or a destination point where client and staff as well as the entire community can meet and exchange experiences. At the same time, the office would have to provide flexibility so as to allow for quiet retreat and focused work as well as one-to-one conversations.

So for Pedro, these paradoxical requests were very interesting and he started to work on these opposing concepts and find solutions to combine them. Thus, he developed this house idea.

He started to design the office as if it were a house. He believes home is one of the few places where he can have these specificities and desired characteristics all together and combined in the same place and at the same time.

That was the task at hand: to design and develop a system that organizes each space and work area. So he took the Color Wheel to lend this organization, making it easier to frame and sequentially placing each one in a surrounding space.

The visual impact of the Chromatic Spectrum is stunning, specially when seen from a certain distance and from a point where the natural chromatic sequence of light and color can be seen, all mixed with a handful of fun and joy.
